Original Frank Lloyd Wright 1938
Magazine Original January 1938 magazine with a large section on Frank
Lloyd Wright. I think that it is complete but this fact is hard to determine. It looks to
be made up from two, maybe three publications bound together into one issue. The first two
thirds is devoted to Frank Lloyd Wright and contains much information about him and the
products he made or used. The last third is a magazine called The Architectural
Forum. This third also has much on Wright but contains other topics as well. The
front page of this section is missing a large piece. Also, the edges of many pages are
worn. I took photos of the worst pages. Most of the pages are black and white. A few pages
on Wright are lined in red. The back cover has some blue areas. Size is 11 7/8 x 8 ¾
inches.

Frank Lloyd Wright portion of the magazine. There is some water damage and 1 or 2 of the
pages have been torn where they were stuck together. Other than that it is very useable.

Architectural Review
1900 Frank Lloyd Wright The Architectural Review
magazine, bound volume #7, comprising the twelve issues dated January
through June, 1900. The Architectural Review was a large,
expensively-produced periodical; each page was printed on premium glossy
paper, and each issue contained many thicker-stock prints (designed with
blank reverse sides so that they could be pulled out and framed) showing
a variety of architectural plans, details or photographs. Among the
features in the issues in this volume: "The Work of Frank Lloyd Wright"
by Robert C. Spencer Jr, which runs twelve pages in addition to
having three double-page pull out prints and two single page prints.
There are a total of 89 illustrations in the Wright pages. The pull-out
prints: extraordinary architectural plans for The Heller House in
Chicago (a double-page print), The Winslow House in River Forest
Illinois (double-page print), House for Mrs. Helen W. Husser in Lakeview
Il (double-page print), and the Studio of Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park
(single page print), and a photograph print of the Moore House in Oak
Park. There are several examples of Prairie style decoration, many more
architectural drawings on a smaller scale (The Francis Apartment
Building in Terra Haute, the Francisco Terrace, etc), many photos of the
Wright furniture to accompany the houses, a plan for a dock structure
and and building at Cheltenham Beach, examples of stained glass window
designs and more. It marks what is certainly one of FLW's earliest
significant exposures in the press (he was 33 years old at that time).
Among the non- FLW prints in the issues in this volume: dormitories at
the University of Pennsylvania, Frank Miles Day's plans for a
magnificent house on Locust St in Philadelphia, Tracy & Swartwout's Yale
Club in New York City, several city townhouses, and many others. Among
the other articles: The T-Square Club Exhibition, Three Somerset Towers,
architecture in NYC, old woodwork in English churches, All Saints Church
in Dorchester Massachusetts, an American Country House by Albert Kelsey.
Russell Sturgis on "The Authorship of Architecture", and more. Ex-libris,
with the usual markings; lean pages bound in blue boards with gilt
spine, measuring 14" x 11" overall. The first interior cover is loose,
but all the other pages are tight. It is a beautiful item for someone
very special. No reserve price. Satisfaction absolutely guaranteed.

architect. Size descriptions: We interpret Octavo to mean between 8" and 10"
high, Quarto to mean between 10" and 12" high, and small folio to mean larger
than 12" high. Condition: All magazines are complete unless otherwise noted.
Generally speaking, magazines do not age as well as books do. Consequently, we consider a
magazine in "fine" condition when it has one or two modest flaws, the type that
are introduced simply by sitting around for decades. Magazines in "very good"
condition have more than two modest flaws, or one or two modest flaws and a significant
one. Magazines in "fair" or "good only" condition have two significant
flaws, or enough modest flaws to knock them out of the "very good" category.
"Disbound" or "previously bound" means that the magazine was at one
time trimmed slightly and bound into a book. Usually this results in small notches to the
spine and, occasionally, some minor loss of paper. It is usually not a noticeable problem.
Please e-mail us for more details on the condition of any items you are considering for
purchase.

This one features a centerfold that poses the same way that Marilyn Monroe did in the
first Playboy. Also there is a photo and article on America's most famous architect,
F.L.Wright. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this a 3. Water has stained about 1/5 of
this magazine starting on the spine edge. Staples are rusty. Centerfold is attached and in
very good condition, and cover looks nice. Overall fair copy. Please check my other
auctions of early Playboy magazines. Low start, no reserve. Good luck. New York State
residents must pay an 8% sales tax.
